  • A World Overturned by Maureen Baird-Murray

“Maureen Baird-Murray tells her story with astonishing, but convincing, recall and with a childlike freshness which vividly recaptures the time and place.” Allan Mallinson, THE SPECTATOR

My late mother’s autobiography,  A World Overturned, was originally published by Constable in London and Interlink books in the US but rights have now reverted to my family so we have decided to publish it ourselves. This Kindle e-book edition has a new cover designed by my cousin Justinia Baird-Murray, of Head design and we are also working on a new paperback edition.

For anyone visiting Myanmar (Burma), A World Overturned  is well worth reading – you can still visit the convent in Kalaw where much of the book is set, and it might inspire you to get off the increasingly busy tourist track and head out into the smaller towns and villages featured in the book.  In fact, this is what I did earlier this year with my children, using the book as a guide and my lovely cousin Phyoe of All Asia Exclusive to help us plan and arrange the journey.  (See my article in The Telegraph Saturday magazine).

But even if you can’t visit Myanmar, my mother’s book, while sad in places, is an uplifting read, and for me personally, having a new e-book that can reach a new generation of readers and keep her story alive makes me tremendously happy.  I really hope you enjoy it.

Please spread the word if you do.
