How to re-boot your hair the Philip B way (after the sea and the sun have done their worst).
1) USE A RESTORING OIL.
This needs to go on first. Starting with dry hair, massage it into your scalp and work right through to the ends, then apply heat via the nozzle of a hand held hair dryer to help the oils dissipate. Philip B says, “You know how when you fry bacon, it starts off as one piece and then as the pan heats up there’s suddenly a whole lot of oil? It’s the same principle. You’re using the heat to melt the oil and help it spread.” On my distressed locks, he used the Philip B Rejuvenating Oil which smells of gardenia.
2)APPLY A CLEANSING SHAMPOO OR TREATMENT TO THE SCALP.
He uses his Peppermint and Avocado Volumizing and Clarifying Shampoo, but my guess is you could use your favourite cleansing treatment. The trick here is to apply it directly to your oily head – i.e. don’t rinse out the oil just yet with water because, as the man says, “oil and water don’t mix!” and please – lots of massage. “That’s what I always do to my ladies in LA,” says Philip. “They have heads like bowling balls. Hard and full of tension. So I massage it all away. It’s the best thing for the hair follicles.” You’ll need to spritz a little bit of water on the head to get the shampoo going. Philip did this on me while standing in front of the mirror and not at the backwash. Apparently this is how they wash hair in China. (Have you ever met anyone from China with less than super-shiny hair? No. Me neither. So I’m not about to argue).
Move to the sink or the shower. The Peppermint shampoo gets rinsed out.
4)APPLY TREATMENT CONDITIONER
Again, lots and lots of massage please. You don’t want a head like a bowling ball do you? Philip used his Oud Royal series.
Until it squeaks.
6) MIST ON YOUR VINEGAR
Mist on the pH Restorative Detangling Toning Mist with Apple Cider Vinegar. Not only does this give your hair a lovely soft finish, but your brush or comb or Tangle Teezer will glide through your hair with ease.
however you like.
Lean back. Put the iPhone on Sl-Mo. Off you go!
